As a child growing up in St. Louis, Mark loved drawing sketches of skyscrapers and turning his
designs into towering structures made of building blocks, books, and old newspapers. He has
a similar zeal for business-building. Throughout his career, Mark has worked with dozens of
companies on a variety of strategic, operational, and organizational issues as both a private
equity investor and management consultant. Most recently, Mark was with Roark Capital Group,
an Atlanta-based middle market private equity firm with $1.5 billion in capital under management.
At Roark, Mark focused on acquisitions and portfolio company support in the consumer and
business services sectors. Prior to Roark, Mark was a vice president with Oak Investment Partners,
one of the country’s oldest venture capital firms. Bringing more than just a financial perspective
to investing, he enjoys helping companies improve performance using the skills he developed while
managing consulting engagements at McKinsey & Company in Chicago and as an investment
banker at Goldman Sachs in New York. Mark is a graduate of Harvard College, Phi Beta Kappa,
and an honors graduate of Harvard Business School. Although he no longer plays with blocks,
Mark indulged another childhood dream by learning to fly airplanes, a passion he hopes one day
to share with his two young daughters.
